TYE Report

One of the projects during the recent TYE was a daily diary that delegates contributed to during the conference. Over the next few weeks we will be publishing these so that everyone can get an idea of what different people thought of the TYE

TYE Diary Day 1

Bolivia – Tikanga Polynesia
It is pretty cool – a life changing experience really. I spend most time in a Polynesian culture and lifestyle, with Polynesian poverty and issues, and it has been amazing to see it in others too.
I loved the pilgrimage – Awesome! Whangaraa was the best, getting to ride a whale…
I also realised that New Zealand has better beaches than the Islands!

Nicholas – Tikanga Pakeha
It is exciting hearing about Maori culture. I love being out of the city and seeing the natural landscapes, rivers, mountains etc. It has been a real progression/contrast from central Auckland to Rangitukia and to see how Maori live in their own places.
The karakia at each point of the Hikoi was a bit tedious at times, but also important to make connections in the different places.
The whole event has been really friendly with an eagerness to meet difference and new friends. It is like a big family.
It’s about knowing other cultures. It’s about coming together to worship one God and see how others go about ding that. It’s about meeting new people.
I will have a clearer idea of what it is really all about at the end I think!

Chris – Tikanga Maori
Awesome awesome!
It’s pretty cool. My family comes from this area – it is a beautiful place.
This is my first TYE and experience beyond Tikanga Maori, though I went to General Synod, which was pretty cool.
