General Synod / Te Hīnota Whānui
Installation Service

The youth present at General Synod really came forth and shone as the three Archbishops were installed as co-presiding bishops of the church during a service in Christchurch Cathedral on the evening of Thursday (May 11).

General Synod/te Hinota Whanui, meeting in Christchurch this week, named Bishop Brown Turei (Te Pihopa o Aotearoa), Bishop Jabez Bryce (Pasefika) and Bishop David Moxon (Pakeha) to form the new-model Primacy, with the expectation that they would share the joint role fully and publicly as a new model of shared leadership that honours its three-Tikanga structure.

As a direct result of the strong presence of both young people and especially the young women at General Synod the Archbishops are now committed to hold regular consultations with women and youth in the church.

This new commitment was made clear in a strong public statement as selected members of the youth present accompanied the new Archbishops during the installation service. The youth also shared their views during the service in a collective charge to the new Archbishops.
