Youth Yeah!

Young people are the majority of the population in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Ministry to and among young people is therefore a vital part of the life and mission of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Now, for the first time, the Church is setting aside an entire year to focus on youth and youth ministry. The Youth Yeah! vision is for the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia to transform into a Church with effective, life-changing youth ministry.

Celebrate!
Youth Yeah! is a celebration of the Youth Ministry in our Church. That includes ministry to, by, from and for young people. The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia has vibrant, exciting, diverse and dynamic ministry to young people happening in its midst. Youth Yeah! is a celebration of this ministry, and of the people who carry it out.

Reflect. Act!
Youth Yeah! is also an opportunity for the whole Church to reflect on youth ministry - what youth ministry is, the priority it is given and the funding allocated to it – and then to act on that reflection. This reflection and action will happen from a Church wide basis to a local ministry unit level.

Many Places, Many Peoples, Many Ways
Youth Yeah! will be celebrated in many places, by many peoples, and in many ways. From spirit-filled, youth-focused services in remote Fijian Churches; through to dynamic rangatahi wananga in inner-city marae; through to impacting preaching in private boarding schools, Youth Yeah! will reflect the impressive diversity of the Church. With 600,000 Anglicans spread across 6 nations, three Tikanga, and countless communities, Youth Yeah! will reach many people.

The Anglican Church
Youth Yeah! has the backing of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. General Synod / Te Hinota Whanui, the highest decision-making body in the Church, agreed unanimously to set aside the liturgical year from Advent 2005 – Advent 2006 as a “Year of Youth” at its gathering in May 2004. Youth Yeah! is being coordinated by the Tikanga Youth Exchange, the representative body of the Three Tikanga youth and a body of General Synod / Te Hinota Whanui.

Three Tikanga Celebrations
Youth Yeah! will be celebrated in many places, by many peoples, and in many ways. It’ll be built around four major events…
